Restoring Trails and Riverbanks at Monteith Farmstead Park
The goal of the WATR Discovery Trails at Monteith Farmstead Park is to encourage the stewardship of stream side land and educate the public on how best to protect the riparian zone.
Once per month, WATR members and volunteers meet at Monteith Park in Dillsboro to maintain these short nature trails that wind along the banks of Scotts Creek, a tributary to the Tuckasegee River. Interpretive signs explain the features and benefits of healthy buffers along our waterways.
We pick up trash, remove invasive plants, clean up signs, and maintain the trails. The date can vary based on other events in the park but typically occurs on a Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sign up for our mailing list to be notified of dates or visit our sign up page.
These areas of natural habitat are important to maintaining good ecology in the stream and along the riparian border itself. Join us in this important restoration work!
